Oh my goodness, I don't ever want to leave Italy. I think I might just stay forever. :P Wonderful wine and fantastic gelato...I think I could survive here for a little bit.
Well, today we went to Assisi. St. Francis was from Assisi, so we got to see the church built in memory of him, and see all of the wonderful artwork about him and his life. St. Francis was the first known stigmatist, which means he was the first one to have the wounds of Jesus appear on his body. We saw several paintings by Giotto, a wonderful artist and Raphael’s mentor. Assisi is a medieval city in the hills of Italy (in a land-locked area of the country, different from Rome) surrounded completely by walls with about 1000 inhabitants. It was truly a BEAUTIFUL place and I was impressed by the view from atop the hills in the city.
